This past weekend I took a little break from dancers to photo another love of mine, horses. Not just any horses, but a polo match raising money for my favorite hospital, Cincinnati Children’s.
Living in New England we started starting hitting up the local polo field for games on Saturday nights. Granted I love all things my beloved Aquidneck Island has to offer, so it’s no shock I feel in love with the sport. One of the biggest highlights to our summer every year is going back to the Newport Polo fields for a match. My kids love it so much, they will dress up in a fancy outfit and their polo hat just for fun.
The Leonidas Foundation
Polo For Babies is a huge fundraiser for The Leonidas Foundation. Over the past 4 years they have raised about $75,000 to give back to Cincinnati Children’s!! Here’s little more about The Leonidas Foundation from their Facebook Page.
“The Leonidas Foundation was founded in 2013 by Chris and Betsy Leonidas as a non-profit 501 (c)(3). Their daughter Adeline developed a very severe case of Entero Virus and was admitted back into the hospital just seven days after birth. She experienced complete liver failure and a stage three brain bleed as a result, but the care that Cincinnati Children's provided was nothing short of a miracle. Feeling helpless and forever endebted to the amazing team there, Chris and Betsy vowed to always give back in any way they could. Polo has been a part of the family for two generations so they decided to take their love for the sport and use it as an opportunity to give back to the hospital, its patients and the local community. The Leonidas Foundation's overall mission and goal is to raise money for Infant and Child research and care for years to come through events like this and others. Please visit:

This is such an amazing cause! When my friend Bridgette Davis from I Want BD Photography asked if I could lend her a hand this year, I was BEYOND excited. Bridgette had a little run in with a table saw a few weeks ago. We divided up the event into horses and people. I took my big heavy lens and gladly photographed the action. Watching Bridgette work the VIP tent and tailgating with her camera with such grace while rocking a cast, was beyond inspiring. If you pop over to her page or know her, show her love! Her new mobile camper studio, Belle, is about the coolest thing this side of the Mississippi.

If you have not been to a polo match, do it! Even just one time. There is something so incredibly striking about the agility of horses and people working together. Cincinnati Polo Club has a new field they’re debuting this fall. Check out their website for a schedule of games.
